Martin and I have been spending time at a local children’s home, doing arts & crafts, reading, and playing games with the children there. It’s heartbreaking to think of the things these kids have gone, and are going through, and how alone they must feel without a loving home. These are sweet children, who haven’t been blessed with the things that most of us have taken for granted growing up – parents to love and care for them, home-cooked meals, help with homework, creative outlets and the encouragement to develop their imaginations, clothing . . . and even things as simple as socks and pajamas. To think that these kids don’t even have basic necessities is just too much to bear.

So this week I was firing some new leaf designs in the kiln, based off the leaf on one of my mom’s favorite clematis vines, and happened upon this beautiful, textural, seafoam-hued ‘Bluebird Clematis’ Leaf. I fell in love with it, so I made a bunch (I tend to go overboard when I like something), and decided that each sale of these earrings should go to help the kids. I find it fitting that something made with the memory of my mom at hand should go to helping others. . . because I’ve never known anyone who gave more of herself to help other people than she did, and she would love this cause.

100% of all sales of these Clematis Leaf Earrings will go directly toward providing these children with their current, most significant needs. Earrings are in the shop, and custom colors are available if anyone is interested (feel free to contact me)!

The enchanting little seahorse is one from my personal collection, surrounded by vintage Hematite “roe”, and encased within hand-forged copper that has been enameled to lovely seafoam green and white (with sage undertones), and strung on antique Hematite beads from the 1920′s.

This golden filly is a 1939 World Fair charm my great grandmother collected. She sits within a setting comprised of copper, kiln-fired with cerulean and periwinkle enamels, and strung on Sapphire glass beads. All handmade components. Hard to part with, but now posted in the shop!
